How to use this site

May 1, 2008

This site is slightly different from other blogs.  It is the story of my trip to China from 28th January to 27th April 2006, and as such is pre-planned and finite.  I aim to present a structured overview of the differences between China and the West, with enough detail to cover complex issues but not drown them.  I try to do this in a readable way by relating it to my own… adventures!

Please contribute your views.  I can only write from my perspective, and I welcome any (polite) comments disagreeing with me, or adding to the discussion.

You can read this blog in various ways:

·     From start to finish, to fully appreciate the progression of the story.  (You can click through the hyperlinked dates on the calendar, or view a weekly summary ‘category’.  Remember that in summaries, the oldest posts are at the bottom.)

·     You can view recent posts by clicking “lets have a glance then” on the top right of this page, or click straight to a post under ‘recent posts’.

·     You can see a summary of posts in a certain topic only, by clicking a ‘category’.  In addition to weekly categories, posts are categorised under:

o    Personal (my personal circumstances and development throughout the trip);

o    Language (how communication can be very different);

o    Culture (one of the oldest in the world and a lot it can teach the West);

o    Politics (a horrific history, now communist control, but soon to change?);

o    Sights (of course there are tourist spots that cannot be missed).

·     Finally, you can search for key terms using the search engine below the calender.

Please let me know what you think.  Enjoy the blog… :)
